POSITION:

INSTRUCTOR OF ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS
Full-time, 10-Month, Tenure-Track Position

ANTICIPATED START DATE:

Fall 2014

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or other discipline relevant to this position.

The successful candidate should display:

  • Ability to work as a part of a team with demonstrated success in engineering team projects and creating group engineering projects;
  • Demonstrated passion for recruiting, teaching and developing STEM students at the community college level;
  • Evidence of strong skills and abilities in the following areas: incorporating active learning in science “lecture” classes; production of effective, engaging, multi-media learning experiences; motivating students and colleagues to excel; creating a classroom environment supportive of learning STEM; outcome assessment techniques and effective teaching techniques to address the needs of a diverse student body including differing learning styles;
  • Experience in Solidworks/CAD; MATLAB programming; Circuit Design and Analysis; Statics and Dynamics; Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials, and Mathematics; and
  • Excellent communication, on-going professional development, technical, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

At least two years of experience teaching Engineering (Solidworks/CAD; MATLAB Programming; Circuit Design and Analysis; Statics and Dynamics; Thermodynamics, Strength of Material) and Mathematics (with excellent classroom and student evaluations) at a Community College. Evidence of creativity in developing STEM courses and experience in leadership roles. Professional experience as an analytical engineer within the past 5 years.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This instructor is expected to teach twenty-four credit hours per academic year in the area of Engineering and Mathematics (Solidworks/CAD; MATLAB programming; Circuit Design and Analysis; Statics and Dynamics; Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials, Mathematics courses as needed by the department). Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing new courses and programs in Engineering, new instructional techniques, laboratory exercises; developing and advising an Engineering Club; working collaboratively with other faculty and staff in developing and supporting engineering programs; developing and participating in special college projects; actively participating in activities of the Math/Science Department; acting as a mentor to students and part-time instructors; community outreach; and participating in other college and community service activities consistent with the mission of the College and Connecticut Community College System. This instructor is also required to participate in commencement and convocation activities as well as special college meetings.  Teaching schedule is likely to include evenings and/or weekends.

STARTING SALARY:

$50,610.00 approximate annual salary, with full benefits package.
