BUILDING
ON A
LEGACY
RECENT GIFTS 1997 - 2000
The Housatonic Museum of
Art was born from the vision of Burt Chernow. An art history professor
at the College, Chernow was a collector and enthusiast of art
of all kinds. It was Chernow's belief that art should be seen
and appreciated by all. To this end he began what is now the vast
HMA collection, over 4000 works donated to the museum to provide
art as a setting and resource to the public, and most specifically
to the students of Housatonic Community College.
The Collection continues
to grow and expand under the direction of Robbin Zella. In 2000
Ms. Zella curated an exhibit of the recent gifts to the collection.
The works of many artists were displayed and can be seen here.
