FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT ANSON SMITH AT 203-332-5229 HCC TO OFFER CLASSES AT ANSONIA HIGH SCHOOLANSONIA – In a move that will make community college education more accessible to students who live and work in the Naugatuck Valley, Housatonic Community College will begin offering classes at Ansonia High School starting with the Fall, 2005 semester. “The courses to be offered are required in many liberal arts programs as well as in business programs,” said HCC Academic Dean Anita Gliniecki of Monroe. “They’re ideal for students who want to begin or continue their higher education.” Ansonia High Schools joins Milford’s Jonathan Law High School as an HCC satellite location. The news was music to the ears of student Mike Russo of Monroe. “It will make the commute to college much easier for students from the Naugatuck Valley and the surrounding area,” Russo said. “It will spare them headaches of fighting rush hour traffic or bad weather to get to classes in Bridgeport.” Russo, whose commute to Bridgeport has taken as long as 90 minutes in bad weather, said attending classes in Ansonia would cut his commute in half. The courses to be offered include Introduction to Business (Thurs, 7-9:45 p.m.); Principles of Macroeconomics (Tues, 7-9:45 p.m.); Composition (Tues, 7-9:45 p.m.); Literature and Composition (Thurs, 7-9:45 p.m.); U.S. History I (Tues, 7-9:30 p.m.); Intermediate Algebra (Thurs, 7-9:45 p.m.); General Psychology I (Thurs, 7-9:45 p.m.); and Principles of Sociology ( 7 to 9:30 p.m.) A similar selection of classes is offered at Milford’s Jonathan Law.
