FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT ANSON SMITH AT 203-332-5229 HCC BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMS OFFER SKILLS THAT ARE IN DEMANDBRIDGEPORT – Looking for a career in growth professions? Look at Housatonic Community College. HCC offers two-year degree and one-year certificate programs that can prepare students for jobs in these areas. “As companies are challenged in an increasingly global marketplace, those companies that have a highly trained workforce conversant with the latest technology and business practices will gain the competitive edge,” said Academic Dean Anita Gliniecki. “Our business programs provide students with the education and training in these areas,” Gliniecki said. These programs prepare students for business careers that range from administrative assistant to managers of small companies, she said. “They can help people gain knowledge and skills in communications, ethics, global business, management, technology, financial management, and team dynamics to name just a few.” One in-demand position that students can prepare for at HCC is the executive assistant. “The job opportunities in this area are good,” said Business Department Chair Joan Gallagher of Shelton. “These positions, which you can prepare for by completing our two-year executive assistant degree program, are more managerial than secretarial and the salary reflects this. Most grads get jobs paying $30,000-$40,000 per year.” One student who graduated in 2003 landed a job paying $37,000 at the headquarters of a national hardware chain, she said. Other business office technology options offered at the college include the word/information professing specialist associate degree program, the word/information processor certificate program, the administrative support assistant program, and the legal assisting certificate program. The latter was offered in response to requests from the legal community. In addition, the college offers programs in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Management, Human Resource Management, Computer Information Systems, Health Care Management, Small Business Management, Customer Service/Marketing, and Work Information Processing.
