HCC Art Professor to Exhibit Works in Bridgeport
Echoes Area’s Industrial Past
On Display through September

BRIDGEPORT - Paintings of Andy Pinto, a Monroe resident and assistant professor of art at Housatonic Community College, will be on display at Framemakers Picture Framing and Art throughout September.

The exhibit will feature paintings of deteriorating factory buildings and mills from around the area as part of a series that Pinto began painting in the late 1990s. His interest in these buildings is both historical and aesthetic.
“There is beauty in the colors of rust,” he says. “Aged brick is polychrome. The stained glass of a factory at last light reminds me of church and the passing of lives spent in toil. Plywood-covered doors and windows flow in ever changing patterns.”

“The reclaiming of a brick building by nature, and repurposing by man happen slowly, leaving a visual history in vines and brick-filled passageways,” he says. “I can remember when these places were the center of life in Bridgeport and all of New England.”

An opening reception will be held Saturday, September 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Framemakers Picture Framing and Art, 3004 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport. Framemakers has developed a close relationship with the HCC art community through a series of exhibits featuring faculty members’ artwork.
