Forensic Psychology Among
New HCC Courses
BRIDGEPORT - Housatonic Community College this month is offering a three-credit course in forensic psychology.
This course( PSY 290) will focus on oral and written skills, research and scholarship, group collaboration and critical thinking. Upon completion of this course students will have debated moral and/or ethical issues and demonstrated their ability to locate resources related to various subjects within their own communit.
Other new course offerings include a special topics course on media and psychology (PSY 298) and a theater arts course on improvisation (THR E115).
Throughout the semester, students will analyze and reflect in depth on such issues as profiling, eyewitness testimony, capital punishment, insanity defense, false confessions, innocence, domestic violence, and sexual offenders. In examining these issues, students will explore multiple perspectives (specifically related to offenders), examine real life cases, and analyze multiple moral and ethical perspectives of forensic psychology.
The improvisation course is an intensive course designed to build an understanding of the technique and application of improvisational practice. Students will learn through physical and vocal exercises, theater games and improvised scene work in order to promote concentration, and to free the actor’s creative imagination.
Students will develop their ability to interact and react, working moment-to-moment to create characters and scenes. This work will give the actor a heightened awareness and confidence in improvised work, as well as in scripted performances for theater.
