Welcome to this virtual visit of our exciting campus.
Housatonic Community College is committed to excellence in education
and to student success. Our mission is lifelong learning for all. Our
focus is on our students, whether those who come to us directly from high
school, those who need a degree or a course or two to increase their earning
power, or those who decide to switch careers and come to learn an entirely
new set of skills.
Our faculty and staff are dedicated to working with students in a learner-centered,
supportive, and stimulating environment. To this end, we provide
quality education that is accessible and affordable. As one of our nation’s
Achieving the Dream colleges, our goal is to assist students to realize
their potential. Our students are prepared to participate in, and contribute
to, the community and the global society. As a leading partner in
community development, we participate in the advancement of individual,
social, economic and cultural interests in the region.
Housatonic offers both degree
and certificate programs that prepare students
for the next step. Those students who wish to further their education
upon successfully completing their studies at HCC are prepared to transfer
to four-year colleges. Housatonic has agreements
with both state and private colleges and universities throughout the region so that students can continue
their studies, often as a junior. These students have saved significant
money by completing their first two years at HCC. Housatonic is
affordable and offers students the maximum financial value. Financial
aid is available for those who have need and every effort is made to accommodate
students serious about acquiring an education, learning additional skills,
or fulfilling a dream.
Other students leave Housatonic ready to enter the working world. They
are confident that they have the skills and knowledge needed by today’s
businesses and professions. Statistics tell us repeatedly that education
beyond high school is essential for those who wish to compete and succeed
today. These statistics show, further, that those with a degree or certificate
from colleges like Housatonic will earn significantly more than the employees
whose education stopped at high school.
Still other students opt for the rich variety of Housatonic’s non-credit
courses available at convenient times to fit busy schedules. With
these offerings, students can learn a skill, brush up and become current
in an area with which they are already familiar, or expand their horizons
by learning something entirely new. The range of HCC’s non-credit
courses encompasses a broad variety including, for instance, all aspects
ofaccounting, computers, languages (including American Sign Language),
health and wellness, real estate, and EMT. Take your pick and learn what
you need or what you’ve put off for too long.
Housatonic is known for its dedicated and friendly student support. Students
take advantage of math and English refresher programs, individual tutoring,
counseling, Men’s and Women’s Centers, and other services
that help them complete their course work and advance.
I hope that this virtual tour encourages you to come to the real Housatonic
and see for yourself what makes us outstanding. You’ll see the art
that is on display everywhere in Lafayette Hall and in Beacon Hall that
is part of the $11 million dollar art collection of the renowned Housatonic
Museum of Art.
When you come to our beautiful campus, you’ll see why Housatonic
is a vibrant, growing, and challenging academic institution. We look forward
to having you visit us at 900 Lafayette Boulevard in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
